Ken's Gospel Workshop. Out of the collective tribulations of the black experience in North America has grown one of the worlds most joyful and enriching forms of music. Dorsey, considered the father of modern gospel music. The participants will learn some of the music from the so called "golden age of gospel" in the 40's, 50's and 60's including songs by some of the great gospel "divas" like Mahalia Jackson, Marion Williams, Clara Ward and the gospel quartets like the Soul Stirrers, the Gospel Hummingbirds and the Blind Boys. The program will include examples of work by some of the great choir leaders and composers like Rev. James Cleveland. No experience is necessary, but a willingness to sing and a sense of openness will be invaluable. Reservations required. Limited space available.

Whiteley produced her two albums "Blue Voice, New Voice" and her latest release "Mixed Blessings", which received a CAMA nomination for Best Traditional Female. Her music is firmly rooted in the musical style of traditional Native songs yet layers in contemporary flavours, spiritualization and harmonization. Also featured will be Galitcha, a visionary ensemble that performs original compositions based on Indian folk music, combined with influences from jazz, world and folk. This Ottawa based, multi-instrumental group is known for successfully integrating traditional East Indian rhythms with popular Western instruments. With lead singer Kuljit Sodhi playing East Indian Dholki drum, Chris MacLean on guitar, accordion-like harmonium, Appalachian dulcimer and a one-stringed banjo called gopichand, Linsey Wellman on saxophones and flutes, and Shawn Mativetsky on East Indian tabla drum, dhol (barrel drum) and percussion, this ensemble group creates a culturally diverse and irresistible, new Canadian sound.
