Line By Line

Linda Morrison (1991)

Ken's Role: Producer

"One of Canada's best and most multi-faceted singer-songwriters." Those are the words one journalist used to describe Montreal folk performer Linda Morrison. That's partly because she draws on influences as diverse as jazz, country and 20th-century classical music to flavour her distinctive original songs. But it's also because Morrison - described as "angel-voiced" by the Montreal Gazette - is also an arranger, choir director and teacher whose songs have been heard on Sesame Street and recorded by such artists as Penny Lang and Karen Young as well as children's musicians Fred Penner and Sharon, Lois and Bram. Line by Line, her debut recording, has been re-released on CD - 12 years after it first hit record stores. Line by Line received rave reviews when it was first released in 1991. Here's part of what the Montreal Gazette said then: "Linda Morrison's debut album, Line by Line, proves what her Montreal fans have been saying for years: that she's one of the country's finest singer-songwriters.... Line by Line is a compelling argument for the theory that all music is related under the skin, especially if the skin in question adorns a ... veteran folkie from Dorval."
