Lenka Lichtenberg (2002)

Ken's Role: Producer

Toronto-based Lenka Lichtenberg is a Yiddish singer, composer, bandleader, singer/songwriter, ethnomusicologist, cantorial soloist and a producer, born in Prague, Czech Republic. As a Yiddish singer, she performs at concert series and festivals around the world. Her most recent (since 2004) international engagements include tours in Holland, England, U.S.A., Switzerland, Australia, Austria and Germany. Lenka performs either solo, as a duo with the virtuoso guitarist Brian Katz, or with her award winning
swing-klez band Sisters of Sheynville (2008 vocal group of the year, CFMA).

Deep Inside is a collection of six of Lenka's thought-provoking compositions, five Yiddish songs and one Ladino-Hebrew song.

Lenka's lofty voice is accompanied by eighteen of Canada's most acclaimed virtuoso musicians such as Juno Award winner, multi-percussionist and dumbaq player, Rick Shadrach Lazar, violinist Oliver Schroer, Middle-Eastern guitar wizard and bouzouki player Levon Ichkhanian and harpist Erica Goodman. Ken Whiteley, who also plays several instruments, produced the CD. The album showcases three arrangements, by the Flying Bulgar Band's David Buchbinder.

Out of the depths of Jewish tradition and music of the world, Lenka has created the joyful, startling and inspirational music that is Deep Inside. Please visit and to hear Lenka’s music and read reviews.
